Golf has been played for centuries and there has been at least a century or more since it became widespread on the North American continent. The spread of golf and its rise in popularity means that not only the United States, but also Canada joined the party in terms of having great golf clubs and even better courses.
Following is a list of the best golf clubs and courses in Canada, should you happen to visit.
The Cabot Links Golf Resort
Located in Inverness, Canada, this golf resort is something to be seen. It has two interesting golf courses, both of which are highly rated.
The Cabot Cliffs is a course often compared to other legendary courses, like Cypress Point, so you might have an idea of what to expect. Overlooking lots of water, the course is as beautiful as they get and as challenging as you make it out to be.
The other course is Cabot Links, as can be expected and it is every bit as beautiful as the other one, but does not have that wow-factor. The lack of bombastic surprises makes this course more challenging than you would first think it to be.
Banff Springs
This golf course is something which you would not want to miss if you ever get the chance to go to Canada, specifically Alberta. The course is surrounded by mountains and you have large trees everywhere, most of them being in your way in the course. Wonderfully designed by Rod Whitman, the course is pure eye candy, not to mention challenging. There are plenty of water hazards in your way, and more trees than you would like (in a golf course).
St. George’s Golf and Country Club
The list cannot be complete if we leave out a club from Ontario, specifically one close to Toronto. This is an older club, dating back to 1929. It has history, part of which is hosting the Canadian Open, one of the great tournaments on the PGA tour list. The course itself is astounding so be sure to visit if you’re in the Ontario area.
Highland Links
The Highland Links are a place to visit if you want to be a tourist as well as a golfer and you yearn for those lush greens and amazing sights of nature at its finest. Located in Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, the Highland Links is a lovely course which might take you longer to finish. After all, photos of such places should be taken.
Jasper Park Golf Course
Jasper Park, in the town of Jasper in Alberta, is a place to see if you are a fan of mountains and amazingly designed courses. Designed by Stanley Thompson, the course is an 18 hole wonder which you must see to believe. It really helps that it is surrounded by beautiful mountains.
Canada by itself is an amazing country to visit. Add to it these golf courses, and many others to be fair, and you have a vacation just waiting to take your breath away.
